The operator who built V:I:I:Y

Built by an operator. Shaped by 25+ years of real shows.

My name is Vitalii Pravdin. I am a video designer, a technical specialist, and the founder and CEO of Pravdin Production.

I came up from being a video engineer in television to running my own production company. But becoming a CEO never took me away from the hands-on work. I kept making the graphics myself, running the media servers, setting up screens, cameras, timecode, tracking systems and complex multi-server shows.

That experience is what V:I:I:Y is built on.

The path

From television engineer to international shows

In the early 2000s, stage screens were mostly used for one thing: putting a camera close-up of the artist in front of the audience. I was among those who started treating the screen not as a relay, but as a space of its own — a full part of the scenography, the dramaturgy and the atmosphere of a show.

Since then I have worked on a great many television, concert, theatre and international projects in different countries. Many of them ran demanding technical configurations:

Eurovision 2021

Go_A — SHUM

In 2021 the Pravdin Production team worked on the staging of SHUM by the Ukrainian band Go_A for the Eurovision Song Contest. The act combined scenography, LED content, cameras, light, graphics and a demanding visual dramaturgy.

Go_A represented Ukraine in the Eurovision 2021 final and finished fifth with 364 points. Later that year the act received a Eurovision Award for Most Innovative Staging. The result is also listed on Go_A's official site.

A real project. A real award. That same hands-on experience is now built into V:I:I:Y.

Virtual production

The virtual backup staging for Go_A

Under the Eurovision 2021 rules every country had to prepare a backup live-on-tape version of its performance, to be used if the delegation could not appear live in Rotterdam. For Go_A we did not simply copy the main stage act — we created a separate real-time virtual staging.

It was produced in the "Platforma" VR studio, built as a cube of LED screens. The staging used:

The performers stood inside a physical LED space while tracked cameras interacted with the three-dimensional Unreal Engine sets. The real studio and the virtual world worked as one environment.

To the best of our team's knowledge, this was the world's first live performance of its kind, in which a physical LED cube, several tracked cameras, Unreal Engine and nDisplay were combined into a single real-time virtual staging.

This was not a traditional VR broadcast for viewers in headsets. It was real-time virtual production, where performers, cameras, LED screens and a three-dimensional space worked together during a live performance.

I have worked with these systems not in demos or tests, but on real venues — where the software has to hold, and where the operator often does not get a second attempt.

The reason

Why I built V:I:I:Y

I built this media server for myself first. V:I:I:Y was not conceived in an office, and it was not made for an abstract user. It grew out of real problems I ran into for years:

The test every feature has to pass

Does this help build the show faster, run it more safely, and lower the risk during live work?

Every significant feature of V:I:I:Y goes through that single question. When the answer is no, the feature is not a priority.

The method

Made by a human together with AI

I do not have a classic, long career as a programmer. What I do have is decades of professional experience in the field V:I:I:Y is built for.

Modern AI tools made it possible to turn that experience into a real software product. They help write code, reason about architecture, find bugs and move faster. But the vision of the product, the working logic, the safety requirements, the testing and the final decisions all come from real operator experience.

V:I:I:Y is the proof: a domain expert without a classic programming career can build complex professional software — if they understand the problem deeply, verify the result systematically, and use AI as an engineering partner.

What's next

Not just one founder's story

V:I:I:Y is built on my experience, but it should not stay a product for one operator. The next stage will be shaped together with other professionals:
